Christmas on the Box: Christmas Eve Television

What’s on this Christmas Eve? Classic comedy specials, movies favourites and premieres, take your pick!

At Find That Location, our Christmas Eve television line-up’s not complete without our favourite comedy specials, so we’re looking forward to Only Fools playing Batman and Robin, the bittersweet but brilliant The Good Life finale, and the Christmas special from our favourite Barry to Billericay couple. Moving onto films, and it’s a choice between two completely different British productions.

While we work out which programmes to set the recorder for and which ones to put on live, why don’t you browse through our Christmas Eve TV highlights.

Only Fools and Horses: Heroes and Villains, Modern Men and Time on Our Hands

Time to step back almost twenty years. Only Fools’ 1996 Christmas trilogy kicks off with Del and Rodney’s famous stint as accidental caped crusaders. If you’ve wondering where the iconic film was shot, why not look it up before the programme starts. You can really see how those streets have changed too.
In the last episode of the set, the Trotters head off to auction. Will things go their way? You probably already know how it goes, but here at Find That Location we still enjoy this classic after all these years.

The Good Life: When I’m 65

In the last ever episode, stubbornness gets the better of the Goods and Ledbetters, resulting in them taking to the streets for a race between Jerry and Tom. Lucky for us, that means location spotting heaven! Retrace a few of their steps on our map. And as if the last ever episode and suburban showdown weren’t enough, the episode was recorded live in front of the Queen, giving the series’ last bow an extra bit of excitement.

St. Trinian’s

Talulah Riley, Gemma Arterton and the girls of Britain’s rowdiest school try to pull off an art heist and Stephen Fry’s school challenge all in one go, in the first St. Trinian’s reboot. Are you arty? Then you might have spotted this cultural switch-up. Trafalgar Square gets a good cameo, but another gallery stood in for the interior scenes.

Gavin and Stacey: Christmas Special

After James Corden’s voice acting in The Gruffalo, it’s time to get back to his comedy home. We love the Welsh TV filming locations on Gavin and Stacey. After all, they’ve brought Barry Island to the world’s attention and given us an insight into the strange workings of the toll bridge.
In the 2008 Christmas Special, Smithy’s Do They Know It’s Christmas singalong and Stacey’s M&S scene were filmed out and about on locations you can see for yourself on the map. It all culminates at Pam and Mick’s house in Billericay with both families coming together to celebrate Christmas, although you’ll see the location for Gavin’s quintessential Billericay home isn’t actually situated in Essex.

Skyfall

Catch Daniel Craig’s third run as 007 and Judi Dench’s final appearance as M. Just a couple of weeks after the Spectre announcement, Bond’s most recent outing gets a free-to-view premiere. This time, the exotic filming locations include Istanbul, London and the Highlands.
The tube scene is one of our favourite big Bond stunts, but it’s far from the only ‘wow’ moment in this movie.
