It’s all happening on Saturday evening, so if you’re still waiting on an invitation to one of Hyacinth’s candlelight suppers, join us for a night in. There are three great British set movies to enjoy, from a trip to Walmington-on-Sea to a spy spoof, or alternatively hop back on the Hogwarts Express to continue where last weekend’s wizarding movie left off.

5.10pm Drama

Keeping Up Appearances: Angel Gabriel Blue and The Pageant

The Keeping Up Appearances Christmas specials from 1994 and 1995 will keep us laughing through Saturday evening. First up, Hyacinth instructs Richard to mask his athlete’s foot as gout, before the second episode of a Christmas double bill has ‘the Bucket woman’ taking to the stage with her customary gusto.

5.55pm BBC2

Dad’s Army Movie

In Dad’s Army’s 1971 foray onto the big screen, featuring the original cast led by Arthur Lowe, John Le Mesurier and co (with the exception of a new Mrs Pike). Filmed at a new set of locations, the plot embellishes classic moments from the TV series, following Mainwaring’s attempts to put a platoon together and a disastrous trip to boot camp.

Many of the Dad’s Army Movie filming locations are public places and high streets, so you can retrace the platoon’s steps – when the Find That Location team visited them, we were surprised by how little had changed!

7pm ITV

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1

After The Half-Blood Prince’s dramatic finale, Harry, Ron and Hermione have abandoned Hogwarts to track down the Deathly Hallows. In Part 1, we follow their quest up and down the country, and we can track them on the map too, as many of those scenes were filmed on location in or near the place they represent onscreen.

7.10pm ITV2

Johnny English

Some good old Home Counties filming locations for Johnny English. In this first film, we are introduced to Rowan Atkinson’s hapless spy when a massive security breach leaves him as the only agent available. Natalie Imbruglia and Ben Miller lend a hand as his assistants, as he sets out to foil a Crown Jewels heist.

SUNDAY 28TH DECEMBER

Pierce Brosnan’s final outing as 007 is one of the movies rounding off Christmas week, showing Johnny English how it’s done with a round-the-world mission.

6pm Channel 4

The Golden Compass

Daniel Craig, Nicole Kidman, Ian McKellan and Dakota Blue Richards star in the fantasy adaptation. The movie might be set in an alternate world, but you don’t have to travel between dimensions to visit The Golden Compass filming locations. Lots of Lyra’s scenes were shot on location near the places they’re set.

6.20pm ITV2

Die Another Day

More unexpected James Bond filming locations as our favourite secret agent takes to the streets of North Korea, among other intercontinental destinations. We can’t claim Die Another Day is our favourite Pierce Brosnan movie, but there’s a great cast and it definitely tries hard, piling on the special effects and gadgets like nobody’s business.
