Christmas on the Box: Boxing Day Television

Boxing Day television is a mixed bag this year. It’s a good day for a double bill, with two classic episodes of Mr Bean and a jet setting Only Fools and Horses special to take you through the evening.

Then again, if you missed out on Tomorrow Never Dies at the weekend, now’s your chance to catch Pierce Brosnan’s tech-studded 007 appearance at 8pm. Caught it the other day? Boxing Day TV is treating us to more classic movies you can watch as a family while you scoff the remaining mince pies.

FRIDAY 26TH DECEMBER

10am Gold

The Vicar of Dibley: The Christmas Lunch Incident

Geraldine is forced to down three Christmas dinners is the Vicar of Dibley 1996 Christmas Special, after each set of parishioners guilt her into signing up. Look out for Great British Bake Off presenter Mel Giedroyc and new Doctor Who Peter Capaldi who both make surprise appearances in Dibley, but you can make your own guest appearance in the village too. It’s a real place, and somehow it looks even quainter in person.

11.30am BBC1

Cool Runnings

Jamaica’s first bobsled team never fail to charm us here at Find That Location, so we’ll be tuning in to watch this cheery Winter Olympics-themed film on its Boxing Day screening. Track the cheery team’s trail across a series of real Olympic venues and remind yourself that this movie’s based on a true story.

1.45pm ITV

Back to the Future Part 2

It’s less than a week until 2015, making this your last opportunity to watch this movie as a prediction of things to come. We’re short on flying DeLoreans and hoverboards, but it’s still fun to revisit this 1980s classic.

How much have the filming locations changes since they stood in for Hill Valley? See them on the map, and ask yourself if Marty would recognise them.

5pm Comedy Central Extra

Mr Bean: The Trouble with Mr Bean and Mr Bean Rides Again

Caroline Quentin and Richard Wilson guest star in the classic dentist episode, before Rowan Atkinson’s mishap magnet takes an eventful bus journey and nips off for a day at the seaside. Wondering where those high streets are or where Mr Bean goes to the beach? You’ll be glad to know we were curious too, so we’ve tracked them down.

5.55pm Gold

Only Fools and Horses: Miami Twice: The American Dream and Miami Twice: Oh To Be In England

You can take the boys out of Peckham… First, the Trotter family make a nuisance of themselves around London when Damian’s christening comes around, before Del and Rodney jet off to sunny Florida.

As usual, Del gets himself in hot water and it’s down to Rodney to set things right. Get set for a mish-mash of sunny Miami backdrops, a whole new level of dodgy dealing and typical scheming from the independent traders.

6.20pm Sky Family

Elf

Elf is very popular at Find That Location, so we think you’d be a cotton-headed ninny muggins to miss Buddy this Boxing Day, but what makes it even better is all that location filming. What a shame the Candy Cane Forest isn’t a real place… luckily, there are down-to-earth New York filming locations too.
